چکیده

We examine the environment of star-forming galaxies selected in the 2dFGRS. We find that bright star-forming galaxies display a significant deficit of faint neighbours relative to passive galaxies. If a deficit in fainter companions implies a smaller mass halo, data support a scenario predicting star-formation to be suppressed in all systems more massive than 1013M⊙, rather than in clusters only.

Single star-forming galaxies and star-forming galaxies in SF + SF and mixed pairs

We compare the SFR of single star-forming galaxies with the SFR of star-forming galaxies in pairs. Volume-limited samples are compared selected from the 2dFGRS, applying a maximum magnitude difference criterion. We show that SF galaxies in SF + SF pairs typically increase their SFR as they get fainter, whereas this does not happen for SF galaxies in mixed (SF + passive) pairs. And we provide ev...

Star formation in galaxies along the Pisces-Cetus Supercluster filaments

We investigate the variation of current star formation in galaxies as a function of distance along three supercluster filaments, each joining pairs of rich clusters, in the Pisces-Cetus supercluster, which is part of the two-degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS). We find that even though there is a steady decline in the rate of star formation, as well as in the fraction of star forming g...

Searching for X - ray luminous ‘ normal ’ galaxies in 2 dFGRS

We cross-correlated the Chandra XASSIST and XMM-Newton Serendipitous Source Catalogues with the 2 degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) database. Our aim was to identify the most X-ray luminous (LX > 10 42 erg s −1) examples of galaxies in the local Universe whose X-ray emission is dominated by stellar processes rather than AGN activity ('normal' galaxies) as well as to test the empirica...

Where do “ red and dead ” early - type void galaxies come from ?

Void regions of the Universe offer a special environment for studying cosmology and galaxy formation, which may expose weaknesses in our understanding of these phenomena. Although galaxies in voids are observed to be predominately gas rich, star forming and blue, a sub-population of bright red void galaxies can also be found, whose star formation was shut down long ago. Are the same processes t...
